Turnhout, Belgium - Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) has recently released its innovative VIDI technology, an enabling UHP™ lamp technology for Digital Front Projection. The Philips VIDI technology will significantly improve the picture quality for the end-users and will give them the flexibility to tune the projector set for multiple applications, for example data vs. video projection. In particular in combination with the state of the art TI BrilliantColor™ technology, the improvement is astonishing.
Already in 2004, Philips successfully launched the first generation VIDI technology for Micro Display Projection Television (MD-PTV). Since then, over more than one million MD-PTV-sets have been sold featuring Philips VIDI technology. As such the VIDI technology is the most robust and proven solution available throughout the industry.
First front projectors equipped with the newest generation VIDI technology will become available to the market shortly. “In every front projection application, a perfect image is required, both in data as well as video projection. In close cooperation with Texas Instruments we have developed this innovation to enable a perfect image for all settings” said Theodoor Scheerder, Marketing manager at Philips Digital Projection Lighting. “In fact by tuning the lamp system, our VIDI technology allows cross over projectors to deliver natural colors and optimal brightness for both data- and video mode united in one projector” he added.
The Philips VIDI technology is now available for the entire UHP™ product range. Dedicated to being “Creator of innovative directions in Digital Projection”, Philips invented UHP™ lamp technology in mid 1990’s, the breakthrough lighting technology that enabled Digital Projection flourished. The introduction of VIDI technology is only one of the examples of Philips’ constant innovative efforts and accomplishments in Digital Projection, particularly in the MD-PTV area, which was recognized by The National Television Academy, USA when Philips received the Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award at the end of 2004.
UHP™ is a trademark of Royal Philips Electronics, registered in the Netherlands and/or other countries.
